Tips for Sparkling Clean Windows Before Summer!
May is here, spring is in full bloom – and as the light returns, so do the streaks and smudges on your windows…
When that yearly task you’ve been putting off finally needs to be done, we’re here to help with some practical tips and tricks – to make window cleaning more effective, and maybe even a little more enjoyable!
Preparation Makes It Easier
✔ The right weather – Avoid cleaning windows in direct sunlight, as the water may dry too quickly, leaving streaks or marks. On hot days, the cleaning solution can even “bake” onto the glass. Overcast days are ideal!
✔ The right tools: a bucket, microfiber cloth, window squeegee or our combination squeegee.
Cleaning Solution to Use?
✔ The easiest and most effective? Just dish soap and lukewarm water – it doesn’t have to be more complicated than that!
✔ A more eco-friendly alternative? Mix only water and vinegar.
The Technique – For a Streak-Free Result
✔ Spray your chosen cleaning solution evenly over the glass. Then, work it in using a sponge to losen up the dirt.
✔ Use a window squeegee to pull from top to bottom, wiping the blade clean between each stroke.
✔ Prefer using a combination squeegee? Dip it in your water bucket, use the sponge side first, then flip to the squeegee side and clean from top to bottom.
✔ Finish by using a microfiber cloth to wipe along the edges – and you’re do
Window Squeegee, Combination Squeegee or Micro Cleaner?
A standard squeegee is used after you’ve already cleaned the glass – it removes water and leaves a streak-free finish.
A combination squeegee includes both a sponge and a blade, so you can wash and dry in one tool – convenient and time-saving, especially for larger or outdoor windows.
With just a few simple tools, you can achieve professional results at home – and hopefully make the job a little easier (and more satisfying)!
